Friday 3rd March 2023 WORLD DAY of PRAYER
For the past 30 and more years, local volunteers have organised a special service so that people can join a wave of prayer which starts at dawn in Western Samoa and rolls around the world, linking women and their communities from the smallest Pacific islands to Europe, Africa and the Far East. In recent years, “Women’s” has been dropped from the title, to make it clear that the service is for everyone, although men have always supported and enjoyed the services in different King’s Lynn churches. Next years’ service, on Friday 3 March 2023, is at the Minster and focuses on Taiwan, currently facing political challenges and the risk of conflict, and everyone – women, men and children – is invited to come along. However, this will be the last local service UNLESS new leaders are found. Our two main organisers are retiring after decades of hard work and finding new volunteers is proving difficult. Perhaps you or someone in your church has supported (W)WDP services in the past and may feel able to help take over this worthwhile role. Please contact Christine James on 01553-775535 or christine.a.james@btopenworld.com to offer help. In earlier years we have prayed for and celebrated with the women of the Philippines and Zimbabwe, for instance, with music and food and hearing stories of their culture and current difficulties from speakers from those places. We would love to invite Taiwanese people living locally to join us next year. Do you know anyone from Taiwan? Let’s make this service a really memorable one, but hopefully NOT the last (W)WDP event in King’s Lynn.
14:00World Day of Prayer Pott Row Methodist Chapel
“I HAVE HEARD ABOUT YOUR FAITH” This year’s service has been produced by our sisters in Taiwan. Taiwan is an island rich in natural resources and culturally diverse. The women of Taiwan share the issues faced geographically, politically and socially and also their hopes for the future. Let us join with them as we give thanks for the beautiful island and people of Taiwan and encourage one another in our faith just as Apostle Paul did in his letters.
18:00Bishop of Lynn and Archdeacon visit.
Anyone is invited to be present at a meeting with the Bishop of Lynn and the Archdeacon as they discuss the way forward for the Benefice during the interregnum.
